Great for a granddaughter on a car trip
Like reading Goosebumps later as an adult.
If you loved these as a kid, leave them as an adult. Wait until you have children of your own, then read them to your kids and enjoy them through the eyes of a kid again.

Don't buy them as a cynical, middle aged adult and read them to yourself. You'll inevitably realize how terribly written they are, point out all the numerous plot flaws, and question your childhood and in fact your very existence.
Fun to read all the different scenarios. I think we've tried all the options and died in most of them!

I loved these books as a kid, now my kids love them. This book in particular, Space and Beyond, isn't one of the best in the series however. These books are awesome because they teach kids the valuable lesson of making wise decisions by demonstrating choices and their consequences (some good some bad).
You were born on a spaceship traveling between two galaxies. You now can select which planet, and therefore which galaxy, you will now be a citizen of. Which planet will you go to? What adventures will you have in getting there? Will you find either of them?

No likely. Space is full of black holes, wars and hostile races. Will you give up your search and join the Universe Governing Body to try to bring peace to the galaxies? Or will you pick a side to fight on, joining in the wars? Will you travel in time, explore new worlds or go to school?

Most of the 44 possible endings seem to be your death or some vague ending without any real meaning. I'm surprised that, as a kid, I kept trying to find the endings I wanted.
